Abstract:

Hollow tension-tension fatigue specimens of wrought, stress-relieved TZM alloy Mo-0.5Ti-0.08Zr were tested in 3,600-rpm Ivy dynamic creep machines to establish S-N curves at 1500 and 2000F, with potassium vapor or helium inside the specimen cavities and a vacuum on the outside. The load ratio A ratio of alternating stress to mean stress in all tests was 0.95. The S-N data all fall randomly within a relatively narrow scatter band which indicates that both the potassium vapor and the temperature in the 1500 to 2000F range have effects on fatigue performance that are so small that they are masked by the data scatter.
