This conference is an annual affair sponsored by the Institute of Physics and the Physics Society of Great Britain. Approximately 500 persons attended they represented most of the countries in Europe including 17 from the Soviet Union as well as a number from other Eastern European countries. At the beginning of each morning and afternoon session invited papers were given -- these amounted to three per day and were of 50 minutes duration. The remainder of each day was devoted to as many as four simultaneous sessions consisting of 20-minute papers of a highly specialized nature. The sessions were on the following subjects Extended Defects, Semi-Conductors, Phonons, Sputtering, Solid Argon, Xenons and Thermal Properties, Mossbauer Resonance, Magnetic Alloys, Magnetism, Polymers, F Centers, Electrons in Metals, and Devices.
