Two different model citizen band radios were provided for this evaluation. A one watt, dual channel transceiver using eight penlight batteries as a power source special features included call alert and a battery condition indicator. The other was a two-watt dual channel transceiver crystal for one channel only, and it also employed eight penlight batteries. Both radios included squelch and noise limiting circuitry, hearing aid type listening devices, and protective covers. The citizen band radios were issued to tactical unit commanders in the field for a period of 30 days. The application of the radios was left to the discretion, ingenuity, and requirements of the unit commanders. The radios were employed in tactical operations and static base area operations.
