Abstract:
This study is connected with methods of measuring the sound velocity or elastic constants of small samples. Among several techniques the resonant sphere technique and the ultrasonic velocity measurements were investigated in detail by measuring the elastic constants of polycrystalline MgO and SiC. The resonant sphere technique was also applied to obtain the internal friction and its microstructure dependence such as porosity of polycrystalline MgO specimens having a diameter less than 5 mm.
