Abstract:
The results of the second-order, one-dimensional, beam-plasma interaction are presented in analytical form. The finite transverse boundary-finite magnetic field situation is introduced in a general manner and the formal solution is presented. Numerical computation remains to be done on both of these problems. The status of the beam-plasma system is described. The initial plasma tester and the vacuum station are ready for operation. An expression for the impedance of a plasma column is given. The appropriate equations apply inside the plasma column as well as in the dielectric surrounding the plasma. Solution of these equations on a digital computer appears to be necessary. The coupled-mode description of the beam-plasma interaction is given for spatial nonuniformities in the electron beam and plasma d-c densities. Temperature effects and collisions are included in the analysis.
