Abstract:

A digital computer program which uses recognized analytical techniques to obtain an Automated Viscoelastic Grain Structural Analysis Program has been developed. This program consists of a primary control routine, load stress analysis sub-routines for the thermal, axial acceleration, transverse acceleration, ignition pressure rise, combined axial acceleration and pressurization, and a superposition failure analysis routine based on the cumulative damage theory. Input to the program consists of motor case and grain physical and geometric parameters, elastic influence coefficients for the stresses and strains, required propellant physical properties, and the grain time dependent load environment. The output consists of the maximum stresses and strains and the resulting cumulative damages as a function of time and temperature for each loading as well as the maximum superposed cumulative damage for each response and the grain minimum margin of safety.
