Preliminary absorptivity data were taken with the spectrophone method and a 1.75 watt CO2 laser. Test gases included pur CO2 a mixture of CO2, N2 and He and a sample of contaminated He. In the spectrophone method, a laser illuminates a closed sample chamber with end windows appropriate to the type of source laser. Any energy absorbed by the gas causes a temperature and pressure rise in the cell.
