INVESTIGATION OF SHRINKAGE-RESISTANT GROUT MIXTURES.

The object of this investigation was to develop information on the properties and performance of shrinkage-resistant grout. The investigation was conducted in four phases the first was a review of literature on shrinkage-resistant grouts the second consisted of laboratory studies of metallic aluminum powders for use as expansion agents in type a grouts and included investigation of methods for use in measuring the volume change of grout the third was a study of the behavior of two types of grouts when used for grouting a simulated machine-base bedplate and the fourth phase was a laboratory study of two types of grouts, one designated type M grouts which derive their expansive properties from oxidation of metallic aggregate, and the other, type A grouts which derive their expansive properties from the presence of metallic aluminum. Of the methods mentioned for determining the volume change of grouts, those employing depth micrometer measurements appeared to be the most successful. Strain gage measurements were reported to be difficult to obtain when the grout is in a plastic state.
