Multiple quantum effects were investigated in waveguide and resonator structures. In order to perform the two-level experiments several microwave components were designed. These included the multimode directional coupler, the quarter wave transformer, and high power sapphire windows. Low level third harmonic power was obtained using flouroform gas as the active medium. Two-level experiments were also run in a waveguide system using methyl cyanide. For the four-level totally resonant scheme, doubly resonant semiconfocal, and doubly resonant parallel-plate interferometers were developed. Experiments were performed at KA-band using methylene chloride gas where a low level harmonic signal was obtained in the semiconfocal interferometer. Theoretical investigation is in progress to determine optimum parameters for the generation and detection of a 890 GHz signal. Several experiments have been performed in a waveguide cell and with the use of gratings to detect signals in the 300 to 900 GHz region.
