Abstract:
VISTA is a particle-in-cell computer code developed to treat the Hydrodynamic model of material behavior when subjected to high speed impact. The code is capable of treating axisymmetric projectile-target configurations composed of three different materials and has been developed to study the early stage response of re-entry vehicles. However, it may also be used for certain other axisymmetric projectile-target configurations. This report presents a complete description of VISTA including mathematical model, numerical method, logical scheme, all subroutines, input, and output. The tape format is given as are the definitions of the terms used in this Fortran IV code. Sample graphical displays are presented illustrating available automatic plots that can be made of the velocity field and the projectile-target configuration at any time-cycle during the calculations.
