This is the final report to ARPA summarizing results achieved during the period of support. These have been principally 1 design, implementation, and extension of a programming system that permits two-dimensional computer input, similar to ordinary mathematical notation, via an input typewriter this system radically speeds up the programming process compared to conventional languages such as Fortran and reduces programming costs 2 development of unique two-dimensional input-output for on-line interactive programming 3 development of a special Selectric typehead 4 development of auxiliary consoles for push-button programming 5 progress in the automation of numerical analysis 6 development of techniques for automatic mathematical text typesetting 7 development of unique capabilities for two-dimensional program and mathematical text editing.
