This study was undertaken to investigate the effectiveness of non-intellectual variables in the prediction of success in Naval Air Technical Training. Three criteria of achievement were used pass-fail, final standing, and residual gain. Results showed that non-intellectual measures added unique predictive variance with all three achievement criteria. It was found that the Navy Vocational Interest Inventory and the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule are of sufficient predictive value to be administered regularly to prospective trainees in the electronics fundamentals course.
