Results of investigations of the electrical resistivity, thermoelectric power, thermal conductivity, optical reflectivity, and absorption as functions of temperature are reported for magnetite and cobalt iron ferrites prepared as high-purity single crystals with controlled stoichiometry. New data are compared with those in the literature. The influence of the magnetic transition on thermal conductivity in the ferrites is deduced by a comparison with data for nonmagnetic spinels. An idealized model for the electrical properties is partially developed from the electrical and optical results. Author
