Abstract:

The data for the H2-NO reaction have been reexamined in the light of new data on elementary reaction steps, with direct integration of the governing differential equations. The reaction HNO NO N2O OH has been found to be an important, slow step. The initial rate, for stoichiometric mixtures and excess H2, is second order in NO and one-half order in H2 in agreement with some of the data. The reactions H2 NO HNO H and H NO M HNO M are nearly equilibrated under most conditions. The over-all initial rate is proportional to the HNO NO rate which has a rate constant of 6.14 10 to the 12th powere to the minus 34100RT ccmole sec. The rate at greater times is less than second order in NO approx 1.75 and slightly greater than one-half order in H2, in qualitative agreement with the available data. Author
