Abstract:

The report presents the results of a study of the factors affecting the selection of a telemetry system in a program devoted to placing a primate in orbit to ascertain the effects of prolonged exposure to weightlessness and radiation. Among the factors considered were data requirements, system operational limitations, the type of telemetry system PAMFM or FMFM that would satisfy system requirements, and costs. An FMFM telemetry system is recommended on the basis that data handling for this will involve the pay out of recorded data rather than real-time data and that FMFM will satisfy all program requirements at no added cost to the ground support complex required.
