During this quarter four tasks were initiated 1 study of electrode substrate, 2 study of electrolyte, 3 study of catalysts for the hydrazine anode, and 4 investigation of the separator. Results indicated that the varying behavior of the hydrazine anode is best explained by mixed potential concepts. The following conclusions were obtained. 1 Among metals tested, Ag was most favorable as the electrode substrate. 2 Determination of NH3 indicated that the subreaction to form NH3 was taking place simultaneously with the electro-oxidation of hydrazine to water. 3 KOH gave better performance with the hydrazine anode than other caustic electrolytes tested. Further work must be done to substantiate these tentative conclusions.
