Abstract:

The input to this device is a d.c. voltage, normally battery supplied. This d.c. input voltage is used to drive a transistorized switching circuit which effectively converts the input to an a.c. voltage. This a.c. voltage is then stepped-up to a higher a.c. voltage by means of transformer action, and then rectified by diodes to provide a d.c. output at the desired value. There are no moving parts inside the device and a standard feature in these units is their ability to withstand a short-circuited output without damage. This is achieved by stopping the switching circuit oscillations when a short-circuit occurs. Author
