The report presents a continued study of some of the variables affecting a thin film oxidation test which has shown much promise as a screen for high temperature lubricants. The test features a heated rotating aluminum disc, over which the test oil flows. A reproducible thin film of oil, which is efficiently penetrated by air, is thus provided. The effects of preoxidation in the sump, prior to passing the oil over the spinning disc, are examined. A new thin film oxidation test unit was constructed for the Research and Technology Division of the Air Force Aero Propulsion Laboratory. Initial data for the purpose of correlating this unit with the Socony Mobil thin film oxidation test unit are reported. Author
