A Nomex and a Polypropylene Blend-Type Cold Weather Underwear have been operationally evaluated in conjunction with the CWU-33P Anti-Exposure Ventilated Wet Suit for the purpose of determining whether either garment provides better overall performance characteristics than the standard fleet-issued aviation polyvinylchloride underwear. A replacement for the polyvinvychloride underwear is sought because of the underwears unsatisfactory shrinkage with high temperature shipboard laundering. Concluding evaluation analysis indicates that both evaluated underwear types are nearly identical to each other in all respects with both being preferred over the standard polyvinylchloride underwear. The Nomex underwear has been selected for Fleet introduction over the Polypropylene blend-type underwear, based on its greater fire resistant properties and logistic availability.
