Abstract:
A preliminary analytical and experimental investigation is made of technique for focusing explosively-generated stress waves, with the possibility of stressing selected interior points in a body more highly than points on the surface. Strain-time data are reported for twenty-five tests involving a steel plate stressed dynamically along one edge by detonating, on that edge, a shaped strips of explosive. Test results show that some explosive configurations do sustain or even slightly amplify the state of stress at interior points. Author
