New Pyroelectric Vidicon Targets.

This report describes the results obtained during a six month program aimed at developing new and improved single crystal materials for pyroelectric vidicon targets. The results of this program included new and reproducible measurements of the dielectric and pyroelectric properties of TGS triglycine sulfate and its homologs identification of new and potentially useful organic compounds development of meaningful and reproducible measurement techniques and the fact that triglycine fluoroberyllate DTGFB would increase the efficiency of vidicons by a factor of two. Based on preliminary data obtained during this program, there is a high degree of probability that vidicon performance can be improved by an order of magnitude. It is demonstrated that the limit in materials utility is not attained with TGS. In addition to the new classes of organic and metallicorganic compounds which can be synthesized, the development and measurement of doped TGS, deuterated TGFB and doped TGFB is recommended. Author
