Pagination or Media Count:
The temperature relationships of the stationary potentials of platinum and palladium in molten eutectic mixtures of alkali metal carbonates, with a carbon dioxide atmosphere over the melt, was studied in the temperature range 600-800C. It was shown that, during anode polarization of platinum and palladium under the same conditions, together with some dissolving of the metals, absorption of oxygen given off by discharge of the carbonate anions takes place on their surfaces. This oxygen passivates the electrode from further dissolving.
