Abstract:
Operating models of a current interrupter utilizing the interaction of a magnetic field and hydrogen plasma have been designed by empirical means, successfully built and tested. The device is capable of either momentary or permanent interruption of a direct current fault up to 200 amperes at 15 kilovolts. The normal average current rating is 0.8 ampere. A discussion of the preliminary tests and the design and test of the final state-of-the-art model is given. The magnetic modulator circuit which supplies the magnetic field is discussed. Areas for future exploration are listed. A parallel computer-aided design and synthesis approach was carried on. Progress toward a computer synthesizing program is discussed. Author
