Abstract:

Many different investigators have attempted to quantify vibration severity by subjecting people to different vibration environments and recording their reaction. The major difficulty encountered in attempting to quantify vibration is that one is not quantifying a physical phenomenon but human reaction to an external stimulus. This reaction must take the form of a qualitative assessment or it must be relative to some other stimulus. The problems associated with both of these methods of evaluation are discussed.
