Abstract:
The paper is based on the results of an initial study to determine the feasibility of a reliable, reasonably inexpensive electrostatic intrusion detection system for field use. The results of preliminary experimental tests appear to verify analytical studies indicating that the characteristic signature of walking persons can be detected by sensors utilizing standard portable solid state electrometers equipped with simple 5 to 10 cm wire antennas. Field test data show detectability to ranges of 8 meters and more.
