Abstract:
A design system to elevate the level at which complex digital systems are designed is developed. The top down methodology, designing from the concept toward its implementatin in a manner which does not force premature binding of system tradeoff considerations, is investigated to determine its impact on the system of representation. The resulting design language is a higher level language which is a design aid rather than just a descriptive notation. Its unique features include 1 a partial ordering representation of the execution sequence, 2 a complete separation of the control and data structure of the design into node and leaf procedures, and 3 control constructs which make the language a structured programming language for designing digital systems.
