Abstract:

The report describes a method of calculating the acoustic radiation from a convex body where the normal velocity is specified over the surface. Both surface pressure and off-body pressure fields can be calculated. The method is based upon an integral equation formulation, obtained by taking the Fourier transform of the wake equation. Approximations are made in the analysis which are valid for high frequencies, but are less adequate when the acoustic wavelength in the fluid becomes less than the radius of curvature of the surface at any point. The work has been programmed, and numerical results are presented which show how the accuracy of the method is good at high frequencies, and decreases as the frequency is reduced. Usage of the program is described. Author
