A pyrolysis-gas chromatographic system assembled at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and employed in the separations and identification of organic materials was provided with a data handling system to allow computer processing of the chromatographic results. In brief, the system separates a mixture into components and then pyrolyzes these components one at a time. The pyrolysis products are separated by two chromatographic systems and from their identity, the original compound can be identified. In this effort the data handling system was installed, check-out and tested for reliability. The system provides the data in the form of a computer output giving the retention times, retention temperature and peak area. This system provides reliable and reproducible data for identification of organic compounds of interest to the Air Force Materials Laboratory. Author
