This study investigates the environmental effects of the proposed administrative action named HARD PAN I, a Department of Defense series of high- explosive field tests events to simulate the shock effects of nuclear weapons on scaled Minuteman launch facilities in a specific geology. The proposed test site is a rural area of Linn County in east-central Kansas, approximately 62 miles south of Kansas City. It is planned to begin construction in July 1974 and to execute the three events in September 1974, November 1974, and June 1975. There should be no significant adverse impact on the natural or socioeconomic environment due to the construction, operations, and execution of the proposed tests.
