Abstract:

Fourth quarter activities included research into electron coloration techniques, investigation of acousto-optic deflector and optical system parameters, construction of computer interface and memory control electronics and the construction of a mechanical scanner for demonstrating high density digital and audio recording. Results included the discovery that highly pure KClNaCl could be electron colored at room temperature. The resulting crystal was stable at a higher temperature than one colored at liquid nitrogen temperature. Difficulties in obtaining satisfactory resolution with the two axis acousto-optic deflector were traced to unsatisfactory lenses in the optical system.
