Abstract:

The Helicopter Dropsight was developed for use when hand dropping unattended ground sensors and other hardware from UH-1DH Helicopters. It consists of a simple cross hair mounted in a ring that projects outside the helicopter on an arm attached to a standard installed in a rear doorway. Sighting consists of aligning the cross hair, a marker on the helicopter skid, and the drop zone. It can be adjusted for various drop conditions, weighs less than 10 pounds, and can be installed within 5 minutes. Dropsights have been evaluated and are being used for training by the US Army Intelligence Center School at Fort Huachuca, AZ.
