Statistical tests useful in analysis of sonar data are discussed. Included are selected tests for randomness, independence, homogeneity, and normality. Most of these tests are distribution-free. Following a brief tutorial discussion of hypothesis testing, the hypotheses of interest are defined, and motivation for testing these hypotheses is given. A number of appropriate tests are then described, and a discussion is given of their comparative usefulness. The report is intended for the engineer or physicist concerned with the analysis of sonar data. Author
