The research is undertaken as a case study of inventory control in a hospital. Its purpose is the study of an existing system, namely, that of the clinical laboratory of Wadley Hospital, Texarkana, Texas, to determine whether any improvements are possible or feasible. In performing this, an inventory model is developed that is applicable to the system in question. The various components of this model are analyzed as to their degree of complexity versus the accuracy required to maintain control economically. Conclusions reached from this analysis are as follows At the present time, the hospital should remain with its inventory system intact, and the data available are insufficient to accurately apply the inventory model that is developed.
