The book deals with cavitation damage to diesel engine parts, methods of controlling this damage, and techniques for calculating and accelerated testing of parts for cavitation resistance. Principal factors leading to cavitation erosion in diesel engines are examined water temperature in diesel engine cooling jackets, design factors, and operating factors. Methods of calculating vibrational acceleration of cylinder liners are outlined estimates are presented of the possible amplitudes and critical accelerations of vibrations in the surfaces of parts swept by water in a diesel engine.
