The completely integrated reference instrumentation system CIRIS system at Holloman Air Force Base provides a highly precise reference for the flight testing of navigation and guidance systems. CIRIS subsystems include an inertial navigation system INS, a Doppler velocity sensor, and a precision ranging system. This report evaluates the effect of the deployment of the transponders of the precision ranging system on CIRIS positionvelocityattitude accuracy and on the estimation of sources of error in an INS under test. Position accuracy with basic two and three transponder deployments is explored with a simple position fix error analysis. Positionvelocityattitude accuracy for a variety of multi-transponder deployments is evaluated using the CIRIS post-flight processor on simulated CIRIS flight data.
