The development of a manned fighter technology demonstrator design, with potential for near-term in-flight evaluation of advanced technologies, is presented. To support the development of this precursor air vehicle, a prime purpose of the study was to establish design goals and criteria against which in-flight technology demonstration could be practically measured. An additional purpose of the study was to assess the usefulness of a selected number of additional technologies for inclusion in the baseline configuration. A final purpose was to conduct a wind tunnel test to provide supportive information of several advanced concepts. Wind tunnel test results showed increased induced life effects with increasing jet flap span and a significant canard contribution to high angle-of-attack directional stability. This latter effect is very important in allowing full use of increased angle-of-attack performance, since it suppresses postall gyration and spin tendencies. Modified author abstract
