The theoretical development of the information that can be obtained from an analysis of the inner hooks of the Roschdestvenskii hook method is presented. The results of the experiments performed using the H-alpha line of excited hydrogen gas to substantiate the inner hook theory for determining the structure of spectral lines are additionally presented. These results are discussed and are determined to be inconclusive due to the low dispersion of the assembled hook method apparatus. The technique has potential application to gas dynamic and especially to two difficult problems encountered in reentry phenomena 1 Measurement of the radiation absorption characteristics of molecular species and 2 Mapping of species concentrations in nonequilibrium flow fields.
