Ionosonde Underlying Ionization Correction Using Ionospheric Models.

Ionogram reduction has been hampered for many years by the lack of a virtual height trace at the lower frequencies of the ionogram. The missing lower trace contains information concerning the ionization in the E and F1 region, which is needed to accurately convert the virtual height and frequency profile into a real height and electron-density profile. A method to account for this underlying ionization using ionospheric models is presented and the results compared with other sounding techniques. Author
