Dielectric Dispersive Properties of Subsurface Rock at a Buried Antenna Site.

The electrical properties of rock specimens collected from the surface and subsurface of a buried antenna site were measured to provide information for calculating electromagnetic wave propagation constants for modeling and assaying antenna performance. The rock is aporhyolite exhibiting intense metasomatic alteration the principal mineral constituents are epidote and sericite. The parameters dielectric constant, dissipation factor, and effective conductivity were measured in the range 10-100 kHz for both dry and moist conditions. These rock specimens when moist exhibited high dielectric constants and considerable dispersion at lower frequencies. Author
