A finite element method is developed for the structural analysis of layered, orthotropic materials. The method is based on second order elements in which the displacement variation through each element is assumed to be quadratic with respect to the coordinates. This variation permits the use of elements with curved boundaries. The analysis applies to axially symmetric geometries and loads but the axes of orthotropy are not restricted to the plane of symmetry and consequently, three dimensional displacements can be analyzed. The program allows application of four different loading conditions which consist of surface, concentrated, thermal and inertia loads. Numerical example is presented to illustrate the accuracy of the method and the computer program. Author
