The report describes the work done on the development of a deep hole stress measurement device. The intention was to field test the device. The report describes the mechanical design, the development of the telemetry and control systems, and the considerable effort spent on studying the problems associated with residual stresses in in situ rocks and their effects on stress measurement techniques. Data reduction from the device has also received a great deal of attention. Three different approaches were tried and these are also described in the report.
