The parametric design of a high-speed multicomponent-flow test facility is studied. Approximate optimum analyses are derived for the acceleration phase of such a device. Problems in one-dimensional energy transfer between high-speed particles and gas are investigated. A two-dimensional finite-difference computer analysis of the interaction of particles and accelerating gas flows is carried out. Results are presented for both direct and intermediate energy-transfer processes. Parameters affecting system performance are evaluated and optimum configurations are described. Author
