Abstract:
The evaluation program gathers statistical information concerning cell performance characteristics and limitations which is used by spacecraft power systems planners, designers, and integration teams. Weaknesses discovered in cell design are reported and aid in research and development efforts toward improving the reliability of space batteries. Battery weaknesses encountered in satellite programs such as IMP, NIMBUS, OGO, OAO, and TETR have been studied and remedied through special tests performed at NAD Crane.
