The study was conducted to obtain additional information on fouling attachment and biodeterioration of materials exposed in a shallow open ocean environment not in harbors or protected bays. The materials were exposed on the seafloor at a depth of 120 feet for a period of up to 5 years in water off the coast of Port Hueneme, California. For comparison, control items on certain plastics were maintained under Laboratory conditions. No attempt was made to classify all the fouling organisms which accumulated on the test panels.
