Abstract:

There are data in the literature on the correlation between different responses of optically evoked potentials EP and perception. Interesting data on the relation of the responses of EP with visual discrimination were obtained in the experimental investigation of Spinelli and Pribram. These authors discovered that in the striatal cortex the amplitude of EP appearing in response to the second flash with the presentation of paired flashes is reduced when stimulating the lower temporal cortex and is strengthened when removing or damaging the latter. At the same time it is known that visual discrimination is impaired when damaging the lower temporal cortex. Hence, there appears a hypothesis that the lower temporal cortex influences discrimination, demonstrating an inhibiting action on the optical system.
