Abstract:
Ferro-cement is a cement mortar with a high relative volume of well dispersed steel wire reinforcement. The material properties of ferrocement are neither those of the mortar alone nor of the reinforcement and vary as the mortar and reinforcement configurations are changed. In this study, several variations of ferro-cement were fabricated and subjected to constant amplitude cyclic loads up to ten million cycles. Stress versus cycles-to-failure plots were developed and comparisons between the data for various ferro-cement modifications were made. Monotonic tests were conducted on the ferro-cement to allow comparisons with work conducted by other experimenters. An investigation of the fracture surface was conducted using a scanning electron microscope.
