Abstract:

The successful application of holographic interferometry to the study of three-dimensional density fields around bodies in wind tunnel experiments has been reported in the literature. The present report has extended the application of holography as a flow visualization technique by investigating Mach 2.8 flow over a rear-facing 18 in. step. Two single-exposed holograms of the model and two double-exposed frozen fringe holographic interferograms of the flow were created. Fast Fourier Transform FFT methods have been reported as significantly reducing computational time. Two computer programs were designed to apply FFT methods to the Fourier transform approach to the basic interferometric equation. Modified author abstract
