Abstract:

The purpose of the study was to describe the status of literacy training programs in the military services during the summer of 1971 and to develop suggestions for more effective training. Data were obtained through questionnaires, interviews, record search, and observation. The report showed wide diversity in methods and effectiveness of the various programs. The inclusion of procedures for follow-up evaluation was suggested.
