A miniature low-temperature refrigerating unit is described which can be used in many different spheres of industry. It is based upon the vortex effect of the energy fractionation of compressed gas and is capable of cooling small cylindrical bodies. The unit is useful to oil-industry workers for the continuous monitoring of the solidification of petroleum products with it one can investigate the properties of materials at low temperatures in plant laboratories. In the new unit it is possible to cool separate elements of the circuits of radio-electronic instruments and cylindrical active bodies of lasers. Upon switching it on, a temperature of minus 100 degrees is reached in less than one minute.
