Abstract:
A brief historical survey is given of work which was performed in the Soviet Union in the field of the physics of the gas discharge, with respect to the elementary processes originating in the passage of an electrical current through gases, and related problems. Early work in the investigation of the discharge is enumerated, with respect to the establishment of gas conductivity. Investigations which laid the foundation of the development of theoretical concepts of plasma are described, and also work performed in recent years. Works are considered which are devoted to the behavior of plasma in a magnetic field, plasma diagnostics, and various types of discharges. Modified author abstract
